Passed another milestone this last Wednesday, I turned 51 years old! That means I've only got 9 years until I'm 60! Kinda makes me wish I could turn those numbers around and be 15 again. Yeah, back in the year of 1984 when David Lee Roth was going ballistic with songs like like "Jump" and "Panama" off their 1984 album. Ahhh that 1984 bugger. Today we're inching and inching closer to that Orvellian novel, 1984. Hope we never get there, more to come on that.
Now when I was 15 I was very unpopular. My high school years weren't kind to me. Was pretty much a loner. Ignored by all the girls... Not much has changed in 36 years! Man, I'm getting old. ALL the numbers I throw around: 51, 36; are large ones. But that's what happens the longer you stick around the miles, the numbers pile up, and you have no choice but to wax nostalgic for the good ol' days!
Wish my zest for life was there, but it really ins't. The only time I seem to be happy anymore is when I playback one of my scripts in Final Draft. Especially my last three: SO GO BACK & GET HER, THE COMMUNE: III, and WHEN THE MOTORCYCLE CALLS. Always lifts my spirits hearing those scripts played back using Final Drafts audio playback feature. Put so much humor in all of them. And they look cool too. So I guess when life sucks, at least I have that to fall back on. I'm an interesting person. I guess if you have to be a loner, at least be interesting. I'm that. Just wish more people saw it that way. I don't like being alone all the time, and do wish I had more friends.
In June of 1984, back when I turned 15, Billboard stated that Cindy Lauper's "Time after Time" was the the #1 song. Omygawd is that ever an awful song! Billboard states that the overall top song for 1984 was Prince's "When Doves Cry", which is another SHIT song. Was looking at the Billboard charts for this week in 2020 I found that the #1 song is "Rockstar" by DaBaby. NEVER heard that song before so I took a minute a minute to listen to some of it... It's gawdawful rap. HARD PASS. The music scene is a mess these days. Wayyy to much wrap, not enough serious artists who are making good music. Looking back over 1984 as a whole I did find some music I liked: "Jump" by Van Halen was fun, "Dancing in the Dark" by Bruce Springstein was good, and "You Might Think" by the Cars is EXCELLENT. And don't forget --
... which kinda captures this year in more ways than one.
Back in 1984 some of the top movies were: THE TERMINATOR, GHOSTBUSTERS, SPLASH, THE KARATE KID, INDIANA JONES & THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, BEVERLY HILLS COP, GREMLINS, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, REVENGE OF THE NERDS, ROMANCING THE STONE, RED DAWN, FOOTLOOSE. Wow, nice crop! 1984 was a good year for movies. 2020? Forget it. The Corona Virus over-reaction has killed the movie season for 2020, which really got off to a whimper with the complete loss that THE RISE OF SKYWALKER was. What a bitter disappointment that last movie in the Star Wars franchise was. But then again it did set us up for what was to come in March, when everything went to pot.
The one nice thing about how bad today's music and movies are, is that IF you're a content creator (which I am) it's easier than ever to focus on your art and make beautiful things independent of the outside world and cancel culture. These days even Taylor Swift has been swept up into that hoopla, as just the other day she was saying that Tennessee has some statues that she doesn't approve of and wants taken down. RIDICULOUS! But what are you gunna do, she's trying to appease the crazies on the left. Hopefully someday she'll wise up to that.
As for me, I need to tone down my drinking of beer, and start exercising again. Get my mind right. Get my body right. Being 51 isn't the end of the world, I've still got some good years left (I hope), and going back to being 15 doesn't look that good either. So why not live in my story worlds and enjoy life. Focus on the things that bring me joy, which lately has been listening to "The Buck Sexton Show". Buck is a radio host, who gives a mostly conservative opinion on politics in America today. I just like how his mind works and his stick. Maybe someday soon I'll get politically active. I never thought I was smart enough to lead, but maybe I can lend my support to a worthy conservative candidate. Can't ever see myself getting behind a Democrat, which has dissolved into the party of chaos and lawless anarchy.
Best find in 2020 so far? That's easy: The Buck Sexton Show
Really hoping America rises from the shadows of this disease. Right now it seams like the Democrats are overplaying our response to it. We need to get back to business, open small businesses up again, and support our police. Sure what happened to George Floyd was a tragedy. But it doesn't justify burning buildings and putting small business owners out of business. Seems to me there are people exploiting this, to bring chaos to the streets of America. Totally wrong. I'll NEVER be on-board with rioting and looting. Hope this sad era in our nation's history ends soon. Looking forward to the Trump rallies coming up. They are always uplifting events. Shows of good will towards American and American business. I do love our country, and am ready to see better days ahead, and I progress on through my 50s.
"Hi, my name is Anthony Fauci and I wan't you to stay locked up in your house until I say it's time to come out."
Wrong! It's time to get out of this malaise, and get back to being the best nation on the face of the Earth!
Trump rallies are fun. Trump rallies are PRO-AMERICAN. USA! USA!! USA!!!
