This a movie that I originally avoided when it came out. Yeah, I'm a rom-com guy; but on the surface this one really looked like rehash and as a creative I have a natural bias against Hollywood reboots. (The original "Overboard movie came out in 1987 and it starred Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell) I was kind of on the fence about that movie. Didn't think it was very funny or romantic.
So how did the reboot fair with a skeptic like me?
Actually quite favorably...
To me the biggest revelation about "Overboard" (2018) was its male lead, Eugenio Derbez. NEVER head of that guy before. But... he kinda steal the show in this one. Good, interesting character, acted to a tee by Eugenio. Wasn't so enamored with Anna Faris' Kate Sullivan character. Like Anna Faris better in "The House Bunny" (2008).
One real positive that worked in this reboot was the fusing in of the Mexican accent. Got some good comic relief from Leonardo Montenegro (Eugenio Derbez's character) trying his hand at manual labor with fellow Mexican laborers, and Leonardo's rich family was done right: a patriarch father, a scheming sister, and a liberal loving type sister. Also had some accent by Leonardo's boss in the movie--who was a Seattle Seahawk fan, which is always a plus!
The sap comes in the form of the tie back of sea-lorn lovers Catalina and her Spanish lover. This fable was used in the 1987 original, and make a reprisal in the 2018 reboot late in ACT II and III. Wasn't sold on that. But one form of sappery which DID work on me was Kate Sullivan's three daughters--especially the youngest one who chases after Leonardo on the bike that Leonardo taught her to ride when Leonardo's family comes back to rescue their lost member. That reminded me of a scene from Mel Gibson's "The Patriot" where his character gets stopped by his littlest daughter who suddenly becomes quite chatty when faced with losing her father as he goes back to fight against the British in the Revolutionary War.
So where does the entry leave the rom-com genre?
"Come on, E.C. baby, show me some love!"
Sorry, Anna, your re-imaged rom-com does NOTHING to get the romantic comedy genre out of the doldrums. Still more impressed with Amy Schumer's potential than yours. "Overboard" (2018) did exceed my expectations for it, but that's not saying much.
Another attempted liberal smear-job. This one courtesy of Senator Kamala Harris, during her time to cross-examine Ronald Vitiello she tried repeatedly to ram home a perception by some people in America that the ICE agency was like the Klu Klux Klan. I guess this was retaliation to previous comments that Ronald Vitiello made in which he said the Democratic Party was liberocratic and neoKlanist.
After listening to video twice it sounds like Kamala Harris was JUST taking a jab at Ronald Vitillo for saying unflattering this about the Democratic Party. WOW did Ronald Vitelo ever handle Senator Harris line of questioning poorly. He got defensive, just kept rattling of his beliefs, and avoided the question of perception. Not saying Senator Harris was in the right here, she was just needling this guy about a perception by some people that ICE was like the KKK and Ronald Vitello got locked in a defensive position and stopped really listening to what Senator Harris was saying:
Is ICE the KKK? Hardly. I hate it when the libs bring this kind of stuff up in an attempt to lessen public trust in departments dedicated to lawful Americans protection and service. That said, Ronald Vitlello SHOULD have kept his cool and answered the question about PERCEPTION. Let Senator Kamala Harris bury herself. ICE is not the KKK. Rather, they're a group of police doing a lawful job to protect our country. Had Senator Kamala Harris she been given latitude to continue broaching this subject it would have blown up in her face and been worse for her than it was for Mr. Vitello. BUT Vitiello PANICKED and STOPPED LISTENING.
What's to learn in this Harris/Vitello exchange is that you don't have to be afraid of the left's racist card and inuendoes. Let truth reign. You don't have to curl up and go into a defense ball when they lob smears at you. If there is no truth behind it, their line of questioning will be called out and exposed for what it is: a smear-job, a trick. Vitello fell for it, we need to learn from his mistake.
Nations have BORDERS. Borders that need be enforced. This is something that should not have to be debated. One look at the map, and it should be obvious to all. Brazil, India, El Salvador, Lebanon, the United States of America. What do they have in common? They are nations with BORDERS!
So why would anyone want to circument that? They want chaos, they want it all to end. Progressive? How about progressing to authortarian state themselves. Torpedo their own country, bring all into chaos. Then you have NO CHOICE but to have a heavy hand. Enter dictatorship. Enter the anti-Christ. Good bye United States of America. Enter in demonic slavery. THAT is what the progressive agenda is pushing towards, imo. That said:
It's never been easier to be a hero.
"If I can be a hero in trying circumstances--you can too!"
When you're surrounded and opposed by crazies you stand out in a positive way. The mere crazyness of the Left will make you appear more as a hero than you probably deserve--if we were in less contentious times.
I am less of a die-hard Republican, than I am an opponent of the Democratic Party. Progressives? Much like those who like to be labeled, pro-choice, I find that to be a MISSLEADING label. Progressing towards what? Lawless anarchy? A dictatorship? Crazy, sound-good-on-the-surface but are truly failed policies that don't work in the real world/ Listen to the rhetoric of the Democratic Party, and that's where it's leading--towards an authortarian state. Some liberals love to label President Trump as a dictator. All the while the action that their party is calling for will ultimately lead to the death of democracy and the hailing in of a dictatorship. A godless rule. One world government, the anti-Christ.
It's never been easier to be a hero, because it's never been easier to see what's wrong about the Democratic Party these days. All they've working for them is the media, most of which is a facilitator for their DESTRUCTIVE rhetoric. But strip aside the enablers and see what the Democratic policy is doing, and it's a no-brainer to look for something else to support.
"Elections? Naw, its my job to keep this thing going--until enough doctored votes come in for democrat to win!"
I am so disappointed that the Republicans didn't have greater gains in the mid-term elections. NOT because because I'm so pro Republican, but because the Democratic Party is so far gone. The way I see it the Democratic Party is more anti-American, than they are pro-American. Throw out the fact that president Trump is Republican, when U.S. economy gets better EVERYONE in the U.S. should rejoice. I'm not a black person, but when I hear that things are getting better for the black community in the U.S. I'm genuinely happy for them. I'm glad that success is being felt by my fellow AMERICANS. What?! Am I allowed to say that, doesn't fall into the narrative that some IDIOTS proclaim, that being "white privilege". White privilege, what a DEVISIVE joke. You hear someone laying that noise down, realize you're in the presence of someone who is lost and can't accurately decide in matters of right and wrong.
It is the Demomcratic Party that is race dividing this county, it is not the Republicans. Still, there is SOME good that has come from the FAILED Democratic smear-job of making people feel bad about the color of their skin that they were born with; it has caused many in the Republican Party to be more open to people who are born with a different ethneticity than theirs. In this regard, the American Dream is more alive than ever before. Their is more opportunity to succeed than ever before, because the Democratic Party's tactic of race baiting has had the affect of motivating the right to disprove their smears. Thus the right has become more inclusive. Open to all.
It has never been easier to be a hero, because the Democratic Party is SO BAD. Just stand for what's right. Heck, these days even patriotism is being demonized by the left. And why is that? It's because more and more demonic behavior and mindset has been accepted into the Democratic Party.
Mobs outside your house? Is THIS the kind of America you wanna live in?! Thanks for that, George Sorros!
Trucker Carlson had a mob of people outside his house chanting threats. Is this godly behavior, or demonic intimidation? It's demonic intimidation; plain and simple. God bless Trucker Carlson for fighting the good fight and TRYING to talk some common sense onto the cable airwaves. For that some people thought was appropriate to visit his house and try to terrorize him. Shame on them! What a bunch of LOSERS!!
It has never been an easier time to be hero, when in America we have so many people LOST and can't make determinations on basics matter such as what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what if profane.
If you need clarity in these trying times, turn to God's Word, the bible. The "mob" of evil can feel overwhelming at times, but read the book of Revelation. EVEN if the "bad people" gain control, the world that they will rule over will be a miserable one. God's word speaks of the world that is to come, and for a while it's NOT going to be a pleasant one to be in. That's why you don't wanna loose heart and give things over to the "bad people", because even IF they win, they lose, and anyone living in the world with them will be in a crucible, a place of great horrors.
Revelation 16: 10-11 "Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain, and they blaspheme the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and they did not repent of their deeds."
It has never been an easier time to be a hero, because evil behavior and practices have never been easier to spot. That gives YOU opportunity to choose something else. Why "go with the flow" if the flow is leading the nation into chaos and ruin?!
Jim Carey. I had a dream about this man YEARS ago. Didn't make sense to me at the time why someone like him would be in it with what was being depicted in the dream, but it does now. In the dream I had, was watching Jim Carey lead a parade procession down the street in a town. I was viewing this from a safe distance away. I think I was up in clouds with an angel or perhaps the Lord, himself. Anyway in the dream watch Jim Carey lead a parade procession into the asphalt. While he was doing so his face was contorted in anguish, but like a soldier have braved through that and lead the parade on. At the end of which time only covered top of the parade people could seen as dimples in the asphalt.
"Hey, what do you guys think of my artwork?"
I hope Jim Carey comes to know the Lord. In the end that's what matters most. Our human mortality eventually catches up with us all. But men and women aren't just flesh and blood, we've got a spirit and soul as well. From what I see from Jim Carey, he is a smearer of people, people he doesn't like. Too bad, early in his career I thought Jim Carey was VERY TALENTED. Sorry to see him fall to such depth of depravity in what he puts out there as artwork.
The news and dealings of most of those on the left should scare you. Should make you uneasy about this future of this nation, and the trajectory that this world is on, which from my way of thinking is a Satanic one.
That said, it has never been easier to be a hero. Just separate yourself from those who are advocates of chaos. Even in the stories of the bible, at times God warns people to get away from the really bad people; Lot was warned to flee BEFORE fire and brimstone rained down on Sodom and Gommorah.
Scribophile E.C. is putting pages of his Legend of Thars series here to be critiqued. This is a site where novelists get feedback on their work. I'm a member of THREE groups there.
